Rui Cartaxo - Chairman

 

Rui Cartaxo (1952) graduated in economics in UTL - Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão), and started his carrer as an economist at Banco de Portugal. Throughout most of his life he worked as an executive manager in several large companies in the Portuguese telecom and energy sectors. He was also a managing director of Galp España and a board member of Red Eletrica de España.
His last managing job before joining Novo Banco was as chaiman and CEO of REN - Redes Energéticas Nacionais. 

António Ramalho - CEO



Graduated in law from Universidade Católica Portuguesa, António Manuel Palma Ramalho has vast experience in the financial sector. António Ramalho entered the financial system in 1985 through the Portuguese Banking Association, where he was in charge of training in financial markets at the Instituto de Formação Bancária. In 1990 he joined Banco Pinto Sotto Mayor, where he worked in the financial division, and became a director of this bank in 1993. He remained in the Board after the Bank was purchased by the Champalimaud Group and integrated the Boards of the other banks of this Group, Banco Totta e Açores, Crédito Predial Português and Banco Chemical Finance, always in charge of the strategic and financial areas. After working on the split that preceded the Group's sale in 2000, he joined the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of Grupo Santander Totta in Portugal, in charge of the commercial area and the real estate portfolio of Crédito Predial Português, until 2003. In 2004 António Ramalho enters the public sector, working in the financial areas of transport and infrastructure companies, first with Rave and then as Chairman of the Board of CP – Comboios de Portugal, from 2004 to 2006. In 2006 he returns to the financial sector as Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Unicre, a company held by the main Portuguese banks, and in 2010 joins Millennium BCP, as CFO and executive Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Chairman of the Group's Real Estate Investment Bank. In 2012 he goes back to the infrastructure sector, as Chairman and CEO of Estradas de Portugal, where he was in charge of the merger between Estradas de Portugal and Refer – Rede Ferroviária Nacional that originated in 2015 Infraestruturas de Portugal, a company with 27 billion euros in road and rail net assets, of which he was Chairman. In his professional life António Ramalho held various non-executive positions, namely as member of the Board of Directors of the Lisbon Stock Exchange until 2000, Chairman of several financial companies of the Champalimaud Group until 2000, non-executive member of the Board of Directors of PT between 2008 and 2010, Board member of VISA Southern Europe between 2007 and 2010, and member of Euronext NV's Supervisory Board until 2012. António Manuel Palma Ramalho, is married with two daughters.


Vítor Fernandes



Graduated in Management from Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Vítor Fernandes held several senior positions in the Portuguese financial and insurance sectors, namely as Vice-Chairman of Banco Comercial Português, Member of the Board of Directors of Caixa Geral de Depósitos, and CEO of the insurers Fidelidade Mundial, Império Bonança and Mundial Confiança. Before joining NOVO BANCO’s board team, he was a director at ECS Capital. Vítor Fernandes is married with three children.


Jorge Freire Cardoso



Graduated in Economics from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, with an MBA from INSEAD, Jorge Freire Cardoso held several management positions in Caixa Geral de Depósitos Group, in Portugal and Brazil, namely as CEO of Caixa – Banco de Investimento. Before joining NOVO BANCO’s board team, he was an executive director at Caixa Geral de Depósitos. Jorge Freire Cardoso is married with three children.


Isabel Ferreira

Graduated in Electrotechnical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, with a postgraduate degree in Banking / Finance and several Advance Management Programs (IESE Business School - Barcelona, Wharton - University of Pennsylvania). Diverse management positions held at companies such as IBM and Montepio Geral. Created and launched Banco BEST in 2001 and became its CEO. Chairman of the Board of Directors of Grupo Novo Banco IT company and non-executive Director of the Danish Bank, Saxo Bank (one of the largest Forex players in the world). Before joining NOVO BANCO´s board team was CEO and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Banco Best.


Luísa Soares da Silva

Graduated in Law from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Lisbon). Before joining NOVO BANCO, Luísa Soares da Silva practised financial, banking, insurance and capital markets law in Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles, Soares da Silva & Associados (MLGTS), since 2001 as a Partner. Luísa Soares da Silva is married and has two children.


José Eduardo Bettencourt

Graduated in Economics from NOVA, School of Business & Economics, Portugal, José Eduardo Bettencourt took various management positions at Santander Group. He was also President of Sporting Club of Portugal. Prior to joining the team of NOVO BANCO he held the position of Director at Golden Assets. José Eduardo Bettencourt is married and has five children.
