What strong costumer authenication?Strong customer authentication adds extra security to confirm the cardholder and validate a transaction. It is called strong because it uses at least two authentication elements from different categories.

How it works for online purchases?
When you shop online on secure and certified merchant websites based in Portugal and in European Union member states, you get extra protection for your transactions.
In novobanco, strong customer authentication for card purchases is done using the 3D Secure service together with the app used to approve the transaction.
For 3D Secure sign ups made before 19 May 2023, authentication can be done using the MB WAY app.
