Two types of account for different purposes.
Each type of account, including the traditional Current Account and Savings Account, has different purposes and works in a different way.
Conta à Ordem - Current Account
A traditional Current Account allows you to make deposits and withdrawals, pay by card, make transfers and Direct Debit payments, use Digital Channels and access many other services needed to manage your everyday finances. The money deposited in this account is always available and does not earn interest.
-
Individual accountThe account belongs to one person or legal entity only
-
Joint accountThe account has several account holders, and authorisation from all account holders is required to carry out transactions
-
Either-to-sign accountThe account has several account holders, and any account holder can carry out transactions without authorisation from the other account holders
-
Mixed-signature accountThe account has several account holders. Any restrictions on how the account can be operated are agreed and defined in advance by the account holders
Conta Poupança - Savings Account
These are bank deposits held for a defined term. The funds remain deposited and cannot be used for the previously agreed period, earning interest at a defined rate with capital protection. The funds are repayable only at the end of that period.
Like current accounts, these products benefit from capital protection and are covered by the Deposit Guarantee Fund.
