For everyone's benefit, sustainability is our cause.

AMI - ECOÉTICA PROJECT

The AMI is a Portuguese non-governmental organisation (NGO), private, independent, non-political and non-profit, whose mission is to reduce inequality and suffering around the world by placing people at the centre of its concerns. Its vision is to create a more sustainable, harmonious, inclusive and tolerant world, with less indifference and less violence.

Among the many initiatives developed by AMI, the Ecoética project stands out. Since 2011, it has enabled the rehabilitation and reforestation of more than 200,000 m² of land. The project was reinforced in 2017 and 2018 following the major forest fires that affected public and publicly managed land. All actions are conservation-focused and have no commercial purpose. Since then, the project has concentrated its efforts on the reforestation of the Pinhal de Leiria.

The challenge

  • Annual destruction of Portuguese forests caused by wildfires, including the extensive devastation of the Pinhal de Leiria. A forest area that once covered 11,000 hectares now contains many hectares without trees.

  • Nearly five years after the fire that swept through the forest, there is still much work to be done.

The solution

  • Reforest the Pinhal de Leiria and restore its habitat.

  • novobanco will support this cause through the planting of 5,000 trees.

Among the many initiatives developed by AMI, the Ecoética project stands out. Since 2011, it has enabled the rehabilitation and reforestation of more than 200,000 m² of land. It was reinforced following the major forest fires of 2017 and 2018 and continues to focus on restoring the Pinhal de Leiria.

In 2023, novobanco joined this environmental cause by making a donation to plant 5,000 trees while also encouraging the participation of 200 volunteers.

The Ecoética Post-Fire Project aims to rehabilitate fire-damaged land throughout Portugal. The land is publicly owned or publicly managed, and all activities are conservation-focused and non-commercial.

1 m² of burned forest restored = €1
Every 10 m² restored = 1 tree planted

The land will be prepared and monitored, and the planting will be supervised and adjusted where necessary during the first five years.

novobanco will plant 5,000 trees alongside customers and employees on 17 and 18 March, including maritime pines, stone pines, strawberry trees, cork oaks, Quercus rubra and Quercus faginea.
